IELTS FAQ’s

The network of IELTS test centres managed by IDP: IELTS Australia offers you more than 200 test locations in 45 countries.
IELTS test fees vary from country to country. Your IDP Education student counsellor will advise the test fee for your country in your local currency, or contact your nearest test centre. The IELTS test fee is the same for both versions of the test (Academic and General Training).
Your IDP Education counsellor can assist you in choosing a test date and location.
Please contact the test centre where you booked your IELTS test. If you postpone or cancel your application more than 5 weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration charge. If you postpone or cancel within 5 weeks of the test date, you will be charged the full fee unless you have a medical reason. If you are unable to attend due to a serious medical condition and provide a medical certificate within 5 days of the test date, you will receive a refund minus the local administrative cost. If you are delayed by circumstances beyond your control (e.g. a transport strike) the test centre may offer you a test on the next available test date.
The Listening, Reading and Writing components of the test are always completed immediately after each other and with no break. You will take the Speaking test up to 7 days either before or after the test date, depending on the test centre. Many of our test centres will allow you to choose if you wish to complete all four components of the test on test day or if you wish to complete the Speaking component on a different day, depending on what suits you best. You will do the Listening component first followed by the Reading and Writing components of the test.
Test rules and guidelines can be found on the Notice to Candidates provided in the IELTS Application Form. You are also advised to read the Information for Candidates booklet carefully so that you understand the test format and know what to expect on test day. IDP Education offers practical advice for test day on www.IELTSessentials.com
Only pens, pencils and erasers. You must bring the passport/national identity card you used on the IELTS Application Form to the test. You must leave everything else outside the examination room. Mobile phones and pagers must be switched off and placed with personal belongings in the area designated by the supervisor. If you do not switch off your phone/pager or if you keep it with you, you will be disqualified.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and does not guarantee a first choice of test date. It is therefore important that you register as early as possible since there is limited capacity for each test date. Applications are processed in the order that they are received.

The application form asks you to complete first and second choice test dates. Please complete both boxes. If your first test date choice is not available on receipt of your application, we will automatically schedule you for your second test date choice. You must therefore be available to take the test on both your first and second choice test dates. If neither the first nor second test choice date is available, we will contact you to discuss further options.

Candidates wishing to cancel or transfer five weeks or more before the test date will receive the total test fee minus a 25% administrative charge. Candidates wishing to cancel the test within five weeks of the test date for any reason apart from medical reasons will not be eligible to receive a refund. Candidates will have to pay the entire test fee again to register on a different date, either at the same or at a different center. Candidates seeking cancellation or transfer within five-weeks of the test date for medical reasons can receive a refund or transfer minus the 25% administration fee if they can provide supporting medical evidence within five working days of the test date. Only evidence of serious illness will be considered. Only original medical certificates will be accepted and must state inability to appear for the test on the scheduled date.

Requests for cancellation or postponement of the test should be made in writing. A Test Day Refund/Transfer form should be requested from the test center and must be completed and returned with full supporting documentation not more than five working days after the test date before refunds or transfers can be considered. Credit card and check refunds will be issued back in the original form of payment. If your credit card account is no longer valid, or you paid with cash you will receive a personal check for your refund. Refunds made by check will be processed within 15 business days of approval of your cancellation request. Barattson undertakes no liability if this refund policy is exceeded.
